We’ve reached 80,000 items!
The cIRcle team is happy to announce the release of our 2022-2023 Impact and Activity Report!
2022-2023 was a busy year for the cIRcle team as we continued to evolve and refine our services to meet growing demands for open dissemination of diverse scholarly outputs. With an average of 3,400 items added each year for the past five years, cIRcle celebrated passing the 80,000 open access item mark early this Spring with nearly 30% of all repository content comprising of non-textual resources. As popular as ever, cIRcle content received more than 900,000 new visitors, more than 50% of all visitors to Open Collections, the Library’s multi-repository discovery portal.
What’s new in cIRcle?
Each year as we develop new and continuing partnerships with the UBC community, we celebrate the addition of unique material such as the newly digitized Thompson River Salish Dictionary, and ongoing series like the Annual Reports of the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, for which cIRcle provides preservation and a secondary access point for content also readily available on the Beaty website. With the addition of the Meiji at 150 Podcast recordings, cIRcle also helped to enhance an existing collection of previously digitized materials from the Meiji period (1868-1921) with this series featuring host Tristan Grunow conducting interviews with specialists of Japanese history, literature, art, and culture.
News about upgrades & more on our blog!
While growing the repository, we’ve also been working through phase one of a multi-step technical requirements review in preparation for a significant upgrade to DSpace 7, the open repository software used by thousands of academic institutions. Watch for updates on this project and other initiatives on our blog at circle.ubc.ca!
