Abstract: The overall goal of this study was to explore the dietary risk factors that may contribute to both ECC and ID. The objectives of the study were to: 1. determine the prevalence of dental decay and iron deficiency in a sample of preschool children from Vancouver, British Columbia, 2. explore the socio-demographic variables, dietary habits and dental health practices that may be associated with early childhood caries and iron deficiency in these children, and 3. explore a possible relationship between early childhood caries and iron deficiency by investigating common explanatory variables, most specifically dietary patterns.
