Social functioning of the aged as it relates to the utilization of health and medical services Stevenson, Barry W. A.

Abstract

Thus study describes an investigation of the question: Is there a relationship between social functioning in the Aged, defined within a specific population sample, and the utilization of health and medical services by those persons? The results show that there is a relationship between social functioning and utilization, and that decreased social functioning correlates significantly with higher health and medical service utilization and also that intervening variables do not significantly suppress this relationship. These results suggest implications for future research and policy in dealing with the Aged in our society.
