Digital processing of somatosensory evoked potentials applied to the early diagnosis of multiple sclerosis Roberts, Kim Byron
Abstract
This study investigated several digital techniques for the extraction of parameters from Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SEPs). The higher frequency smaller peaks in the SEP were emphasised using a digital filter to remove the low frequency components. The filtered SEPs were compared to a Standard Wave using Dynamic Time Warping techniques which produced a Cost Function to measure abnormality. A quantification of the dispersion of the SEPs was also computed. These parameters were evaluated as to their sensitivity and reliablility when used to classify Normal and Multiple Sclerosis SEPs. They proved to be clinically significant diagnostic tools.
