Abstract: My video based visual art installation work considers narrative constructions of the past and their associated visual imagery as a means of generating alternative perspectives that foster constructive assertions of the present and serves in the formation of positive outlooks of the future. I propose that through nostalgic reflection of history, new possible meanings and understanding of the current situations can be imagined. Using video, sound recordings, archival film, photos, video sculpture and first person anecdotes I demonstrate, in two distinct shows, how alternative interpretations of events can be imagined. These exhibits explore how the rumination of past and present can stimulate self-reflexivity and creative engagement with consciousness thus fostering positive identity formation and social connectedness.
