Art of collaboration Burd, Rosemary; Roll, Ofira

Description

Our work seeks to extend ideas about collaboration in research to a communal art-making process where painting is the catalyst for engaging in and igniting conversations about teaching, transformation, change, and identity. Drawing on a/r/tographic practices and embodied cognition, we see the possibilities for painting as a medium for thinking through motion. The aim of this collaborative, creative exercise is threefold: to extend participant skills in using art-making as a catalyst for dialogue; to illuminate insights into the complexity of our own beliefs about education and teaching, and the dynamic of shared ideas; to spark personal connections to creativity and embodied knowledge. [The Explorations & Education Conference is the collaborative effort of graduate student representatives from the Graduate Student Council for the Faculty of Education, the Department of Educational Studies and the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy. The goal is to "to create a safe space for the exchange of academic ideas and to create opportunities particularly for graduate students (at all levels of study) to present their ideas and research".]
