The hydroformation of 3,4,6-Tri-O-acetyl-D-galactal Read, Dale Welton

Abstract

3,4,6-Tri-Q-acetyl-D-galactal was treated in the presence of dicohalt octacarbonyl with carbon monoxide and hydrogen at elevated temperatures and pressures. From deacetylation of the reaction products, a seven carbon homologue of a deoxy anhydride of D-galactitol was obtained. That is, a hydroxy methyl group was added to either carbon one or two of the original unsaturated sugar.
