Chinatown/Youth University of British Columbia. School of Community and Regional Planning

Abstract

This report combines three distinct visions for Vancouver's Chinatown produced by urban design students in UBC’s School of Community and Regional Planning. The report includes background research, vision and goal statements, master plans, neighbourhood centre plans, sections, 3-D visualizations and target data for the following 3 visions: i, a distinct cultural community that is inspiring, creative and flexible in its ability to accommodate current and future generations of youth; ii, to reaffirm Chinatown as a vibrant local business district and to create a culturally unique regional destination; and iii, meeting Chinatown’s residential potential while minimizing the negative impacts on existing character, heritage, residents, and businesses. It is about honouring Chinatown’s urban fabric and spirit.
