Abstract: Social Potluck is an interactive community food storytelling performance project created by Gabriel Newman. Central to the work is the belief that the dinner table is the most important performance venue in our society. By trading meals for stories, Newman collects stories and creates unique and personal performances about and for the participants as a way of building community and celebrating the community‟s ability to practice the oral art of storytelling. Three voices, which represent three perspectives of Gabriel Newman -the artist, the student and the performer -present the findings using stories, anecdotes, photographs and critical theory to articulate the Social Potluck experience.
