General manpower stock simulator (GMSS) : simulations of possible numbers of physicians in British Columbia to 1993 Muir, G.; Stark, A.J.

Abstract

In these analyses the General Manpower Stock Simulator (GMSS) has been used to simulate the numbers of physicians in British Columbia to the year 1993. The model employs Markovian transitional probabilities conditional upon location, age and classification (General Practitioner or Specialist) of physicians to age the physician population and to investigate the effect of various policy options upon the stock of physicians. GMSS, then, simulated those factors known to influence the stock of physicians in British Columbia over time and it is on this experience and selected policy options that the future stock is projected.
