Conceptualizing the role of the Nurse Practitioner : what is an NP and how does this role translate to practice Freitag, Brittany
Description
This poster focuses on the clinical issue of Nurse practitioner (NP) role ambiguity. NP ambiguity is an issue that results in decreased understanding of NPs by the public and healthcare professionals, barriers at the point of care, and ultimately decreased integration of the NP into the health care system. This issue is exacerbated by varying understandings and perceptions of the NP role influenced by historical and contextual factors. The use of role theory, adoption of an ontological view of advanced nursing practice, and application of a knowledge translation framework are all valuable tools in resolving this clinical practice issue.
