Abstract: Northgate Minerals is currently considering expanding their Kemess Mine operation to include the nearby Kemess North open pit. As part of the environmental impact assessment, post-closure pit pond hydrologic and water quality models were developed for both the existing Kemess South open pit and the proposed Kemess North open pit. This paper describes the methods used to develop the models and compares the approach taken for the two pits.
