The cIRcle team is happy to announce the release of our 2023-2024 Impact and Activity Report! 2023-2024 was another busy year for the cIRcle team, with our Impact and Activity Report showcasing the many fruits of our collaborative labour.
84,000 items and growing!
This past year saw cIRcle’s collection grow to more than 84,000 items from UBC’s global community. In 2023-2024, more than 2,600 student works were added to cIRcle. While thesis and dissertation deposits increased by more than 30% from the previous year, undergraduate deposits to cIRcle more than doubled.
What’s new in cIRcle?
Each year as we develop new and continuing partnerships with the UBC community, we celebrate the addition of unique material such as the newly digitized English-Squamish Language Dictionary. A true team effort, UBC Library Communications shares the story of how this dictionary found its way to cIRcle for preservation and permanent open access.
cIRcle continues to support the open access sharing and preservation of research materials created by UBC faculty, students, and our larger community of scholarship. This year, we archived nearly 40 books and articles published with the support of the UBC Open Access Fund for Humanities and Social Sciences Research and more than 140 issues of Therapeutics Letters, an open access publication from UBC’s Therapeutics Initiative focused on improving awareness and understanding of common issues seen by physicians and pharmacists.
Behind the scenes at cIRcle
We’re continuing to prepare for our migration to DSpace 7, the open repository software used by thousands of academic institutions. To prepare for the migration, our team has undertaken numerous metadata and repository remediation projects, such as Subject Heading remediation in support of more inclusive metadata. In an effort to share our behind the scenes work, we’ve refreshed our cIRcle Blog and highlight new content, projects, and other goings-on at cIRcle in our twice monthly posts. Read about advanced search strategies, author name management, and more on our blog!
