Congratulations to the GSS cIRcle Open Scholar Award winners for October 2015!
The first Award winner is Paul Liu. A MSc graduate student from the UBC Department of Computer Science, Liu won the Award for his entry, “An exploration of matrix equilibration”. It is openly accessible at: http://hdl.handle.net/2429/54900. Liu (pictured above) was presented with his Award by Enav Zusman, GSS VP University and Academic Affairs at UBC.
The second Award winner (not pictured) is Monica L. P. Lytwyn. She completed her MEd in Early Childhood Education at UBC earlier this year in April 2015. Her Award entry, “Co-creating a pedagogical support document to support meaningful curriculum and enhanced quality” is also openly accessible at: http://hdl.handle.net/2429/53894.

It’s that exciting time of year again! As a faculty member, a visiting scholar, a graduate and/or postdoctoral student or an undergraduate student, you will not want to miss the following free and open to the public event in celebration of International Open Access Week.
This year hallmarks the first Open Access Week event hosted in partnership between UBC Library, the Public Knowledge (PKP), BCcampus, the Simon Fraser University (SFU) Library and the BC Research Libraries Group (BCRLG).
The panel discussion is entitled, Open for Collaboration: Is it time for Canada to implement a unified open strategy for higher education?. It will delve into how BC universities and colleges can further accelerate research dissemination more openly and what role the government and higher education play in the open access movement.
When? Thursday, October 22, 2015
Where? SFU Harbour Centre. Reception will be in the Teck Gallery. The main event will be in room 1430.
How much? Free but registration is required.

We are happy to announce the soft launch of cIRcle’s DSpace digital repository software upgrade from version 3.1 to 5.1!
Details about cIRcle’s DSpace 5.1 upgrade outlining some new features and its integration with the UBC Library’s new search portal, Open Collections, will be coming soon. With UBC Library`s 100th anniversary this fall, researchers either local or abroad will be set to experience better discovery and access to UBC`s unique institutional research.
