UBC supports Vancouver’s greenest city plan with grants for students to work on green projects
One of the first initiatives is the creation of the Greenest City Action Team Scholars program, which will see UBC provide grants for 10 graduate students to help implement the Greenest City 2020 Plan.
UBC and the City of Vancouver have signed a multi-year agreement promising to work together on common goals of sustainability, climate action and a green economy.
UBC is offering its expertise to help Vancouver achieve its 2020 dream, adapting programs that have worked well at the university to meet the needs of an urban centre, said UBC President Stephen Toope.

UBC, cIRcle excel in global rankings
For more information on the university and IR rankings, please see www.webometrics.info/top8000.asp and http://repositories.webometrics.info/top400_rep_inst.asp.
The University of British Columbia and its institutional repository both feature prominently in a pair of global rankings.
UBC is the top-ranked Canadian university – and 35th in the world – according to research from CSIC (the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas), the largest public research body in Spain.
A separate CSIC ranking places UBC’s cIRcle (https://circle.ubc.ca) at 77th out of 400 global institutional repositories (IRs). An IR is an online storehouse for an institution’s scholarly and administrative output.
“This is such an encouraging result, given that cIRcle began developing only about three years ago,” says Hilde Colenbrander, cIRcle’s Co-ordinator. “We plan to continue enhancing our holdings so we can showcase UBC’s contributions to the world.”
